NO PLACE LIKE ORTO

In 1981, high school students and rockers Marko and Andrej dreamed of having their own rock club, where musicians and other like-minded people would gather and play. The club would give them independence and allow them to stay what they are and not give in to the winds. That is why they named it Orto (not deviating from the outlined path). The virtual club became a reality in December 1994, when they finally opened it after two years of work. Andrej discovered the old Zmaj factory, where Orto is located, in a newspaper ad. Then, together with architecture student Primož Jeza, they designed the interior and brought their vision to life. For shaping this vision, Jeza received the Plečnik Student Award in 1998. The opening of Orta, with its unique, authentic design and music program, caused a real euphoria among visitors to bars in Ljubljana and also in Slovenia. In the foggy sleepy Ljubljana, after a few years of dormancy, the punk-rocker-alter spirit awoke, which finally found its "home" with the opening of Orta. The word bar itself was added to the word Orto so that people would know it was a public space. Six months after the opening, the first band - Flying Tramps - performed, followed by 150-200 performances by various bands each year. Among them, in addition to resounding domestic names, there were also many foreign ones. Then in 1999 the lower part of the bar called the bar got an even younger brother upstairs called the club. This gave the concert and the rest of the program in Ort an additional boost. In this second period, the architect Špela Kokalj has been helping them with the design to this day. Although the space has expanded, it has retained its club atmosphere and excellent sound comparability with music studios. There are very few local punk-rock, pop, metal musicians who have not performed here since the opening of the bar, as more than 2,000 performances by domestic and foreign music groups have taken place in Ort since 1994. In addition to the concert, Orto is also known for its rich DJ program, which is performed both in the lower rooms and in the club. To the new acquisition of Orta's complete offer, we also consider the year 2007, when smokers acquired their own space (smoking room) and another entertainment space with billiards and handball opened on the lower floor. Every year, Orto also hosts the only month-long club music festival in Slovenia! The already traditional Orto Fest takes place every year in April and at that time serves a large number of musical events. Orto continues the basic mission of his work, which he set for himself at the very opening. Be unique, independent, daring, fun and homely and offer guests a wide and varied music and DJ program, also internationally. At the same time, Orto has always been a refuge for all those who need a space in which they can always be independent. Where they can always be Orto.
